From my Facebook post on Oct. 6, 2015:
We had one of our best days today! We went in to Salzburg on the bus, and we did the Sound of Music bus tour. It was so much fun! The guide was great and the whole bus sang along to parts of the soundtrack as we traveled around. HAHA (Even Tyler!) :) It was a dream to get to see those sights. smile emoticon Then tonight we went to a chamber concert of Mozart music in the Mozarteum! Wow. It was FANTASTIC. A cellist and a pianist. Such a treat!
A few funny things, though. Our bus got stopped tonight on the way back to Freilassing Germany by the police, doing a border check. I was the only one in our family who had brought ID! The policeman looked at my ID and said, "family?" pointing to the rest of us, and then smiled and let us through. I guess we need to bring our ID when we go into Austria, so that we can get back to apartment! Also, the bus we had taken into town in the morning had stopped running before our concert was finished in the evening. It was a little unnerving to try to get directions from another bus driver who only spoke German, but we found our way back! smile emoticon And thirdly, almost every place in Salzburg only accepts cash! That made for a few comical moments. Like after eating lunch in a restaurant, having to go find an ATM to pay the bill!
Definitely a memorable day!

Another bridge with locks on it - Love Locks :)

Famous statue, largest one in Europe made of.... I can't remember! In Residenz Square. Seen in The Sound of Music when Maria is singing "I Have Confidence in Me"

For lunch we went to a small place that made kebabs. Yummy! It was a really small place. There were only 3 tables to sit at, and a small bar. One table was taken by the owner's wife and baby. We sat at the middle table, and another family sat at the other table. As we were waiting for our food, I could tell that the other family was from America or Canada, so I asked them where they were from. They said they were from Oregon! Our neighbors. :) The wife said she had spent a couple of years in Salzburg going to university, some years ago, and now they were visiting. Cool. Funny thing. When we realized that we didn't have cash for the bill, I went off to find an ATM, and they told Dave that if I couldn't find one, they would cover our bill and we could pay them back later! Haha.

We did The Sound of Music bus tour in the afternoon.

This is Mozart Bridge, but it's been renamed the Do-Re-Mi Bridge because in The Sound of Music Maria and the children sing "Do-Re-Mi" as they run across it.
The lake in the movie, behind the house.
They used this property, Leopoldskron Palace and lake, in the movie, but not the house, for the Von Trapp residence. They wanted a different place to be the home of the Von Trapps. Which made for some tricky camera work.
The gazebo in The Sound of Music. The one that they used for "I Am 16 Going on 17" is actually a lot larger, and was in the film studio. I think this one appeared in the movie when Maria and the captain are admitting their love, towards the end of the movie, and is seen in the background a couple of other times. It was at the property of the above residence for the filming, but had to be moved due to vandalism.

Driving in the bus through Austria's Lake District. It's very beautiful!

The Mondsee Abbey, the Basilica St. Michael?, where they filmed the scenes of Maria and Captain Von Trapp getting married.

When we were in the town of Mondsee to see the Mondsee Abbey, I went into a little jewelry shop to look for a souvenir charm for my charm bracelet. The lady showed me a nice one - silver, with a red jeweled "A" for Austria. She said she would sell it to me for 15 Euros. I tried to pay for it with my Visa card, but she said she couldn't take a Visa for less than 20. I didn't have enough cash with me, so I went to talk to Dave to see if he had cash. He didn't either, but he said just to offer to pay her 20 Euros for the charm, and then she could run the card. So I went back and suggested that to her. It was a little hard to understand each other, as German is her first language, but I think she understood. But then she said, "You take it, it's my gift to you!" I said, no, no, you can charge my card 20 Euros, but she said, "You're from America?" I said, yes, and she said, "My gift to you!" Wow, that was so sweet! It totally made my day. What a sweetheart. I gave her a little hug, and thanked her, and went on my way.

Mmmm. Lunch!

We found a place to eat dinner, after some searching for a place that would take Visa! It was quite a good restaurant - fancy. We were a little under-dressed and in a hurry, but they were gracious!

This is where we saw the cello and piano concert. It was soooo good! We felt a little silly because we weren't dressed up. When I bought the tickets in the morning at the tourist info office, I asked if we needed to dress up. She said no. We were definitely under-dressed! Oh well, we couldn't do anything about it. :/ We were so glad that we went, though. So fabulous!
